For Parking Day* 2017, LAB teamed with the Earth Conservation Corps
(ECC) and Casey Trees
to highlight water quality issues in the Anacostia River watershed. Exactly 200 plastic bottles, collected by members of the ECC from the Anacostia River as part of their ongoing cleanup efforts, were repurposed as a sculptural field that illustrated the scale of the problem associated with untreated stormwater in the watershed. The project further highlighted the importance of creative green infrastructure solutions and provided an opportunity for members of the community to meet and discuss local efforts to resolve this problem.
* PARK(ing) Day is an annual worldwide event where artists, designers and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks. For details, visit: parkingday.org.
